Ottawa, November 1, 2024 – The Honourable David Lametti, Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, today announced the following judicial appointment:
Rodney D. LeBlanc (he/him) is appointed a judge of the Nova Scotia Court of Appeal. Judge LeBlanc replaces Madam Justice M.J. Dumont (Halifax), who elected to become a supernumerary judge effective October 1, 2024.
Biography
Judge LeBlanc graduated from the Université de Moncton with a Bachelor of Laws in 1996. He began his career as Registrar of the Court of Appeal of New Brunswick from 1996 to 1998, and then of the Trial Division of the Court of Queen’s Bench of New Brunswick from 1998 to 2001. In 2001, Judge LeBlanc joined the New Brunswick law firm of Stewart McKelvey as an associate lawyer. He became a partner in 2005 and practiced primarily in the areas of civil, commercial, and administrative litigation until 2015. Judge LeBlanc also taught Civil Procedure and Legal Writing at the Université de Moncton, Faculty of Law, from 2002 to 2015. He was appointed to the Nova Scotia Court of Appeal as a puisne judge in 2015.
Judge LeBlanc is an active member of the legal community. He is a member of the Canadian Bar Association and has been involved with the New Brunswick Branch in various capacities, including as Past President, Vice-President, Treasurer, and Executive Member. He has been a member of the CBA’s National Council and has chaired the Civil Litigation Section. Judge LeBlanc is also a member of the Nova Scotia Barristers’ Society and was a member of the Nova Scotia Court of Appeal Rules Committee. In 2003, he received the Queen’s Silver Jubilee Medal for his outstanding contributions to the community.
This appointment is effective November 1, 2024.
