The Reserve Forces’ and Cadets’ Association for Wales (RFCA) welcomed around 100 guests to its annual briefing event in Cardiff on Tuesday 31 October 2024.
Brigadier David J Turner MBE, the RFCA’s Chief Executive, opened the event with a review of the past year’s activities and achievements. He highlighted the success of the RFCA’s outreach work with young people in schools and communities throughout Wales, as well as its support for veterans and reservists.
The Minister for Defence People and Veterans, the Hon Leo Docherty MP, gave a keynote speech in which he praised the RFCA’s work in supporting the Armed Forces in Wales. He also spoke about the importance of the Reserve Forces and Cadets in the UK’s defence capability.
Other speakers at the event included Major General Tim Williams, Commander of the 160th (Wales) Brigade; Captain Peter Greenslade MBE, Commanding Officer of HMS Cambria; and Warrant Officer Class 1 Steve Thomas, who spoke about his experiences serving with the Royal Welsh Regiment in Iraq and Afghanistan.
