Washington, D.C. – FBI Deputy Director Paul M. Abbate today announced the appointment of Timothy A. Ferguson as Assistant Director of the Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) Division. Ferguson most recently served as the CJIS Division’s Deputy Assistant Director.

As Assistant Director, Ferguson will oversee the division responsible for managing and disseminating criminal justice information to federal, state, local, tribal, and international law enforcement and criminal justice agencies. CJIS also develops and maintains the FBI’s national criminal justice information systems, including the National Crime Information Center (NCIC).

“Tim is a highly respected and experienced leader within the FBI and the law enforcement community,” said Abbate. “His deep understanding of the criminal justice information ecosystem and his commitment to innovation will be invaluable to the FBI and our partners.”

Ferguson has been with the FBI for over 25 years, serving in a variety of leadership roles within the CJIS Division. Prior to becoming Deputy Assistant Director, he was the Section Chief of the Information Technology Branch. In this role, he oversaw the development and implementation of new technologies and systems to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the FBI’s criminal justice information systems.

Ferguson is a graduate of the University of Maryland, College Park, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in computer science. He also holds a master’s degree in information systems management from the University of Maryland, University College.

Ferguson is a member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) and the FBI’s Information Technology Advisory Board. He has been recognized for his leadership and contributions to the law enforcement community, receiving the IACP’s Technology Leadership Award in 2023.

Ferguson’s appointment as Assistant Director of the CJIS Division is effective immediately.
