Ottawa, February 18, 2025 – The Honourable David Lametti, Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, today announced the following judicial appointment under the new judicial application process introduced on October 20, 2016. The new process emphasizes transparency, merit, and diversity, and will continue to ensure the appointment of highly qualified, impartial, and representative judges.

Nunavut Court of Justice

  • Mr. David Angalik Sr., a sole practitioner at Angalik Law Office in Iqaluit, is appointed a judge of the Nunavut Court of Justice to replace Madam Justice E.K. Boast, who transferred to the Yukon Supreme Court, effective February 26, 2025.

Biography

Mr. Angalik Sr. received a Bachelor of Arts with Great Distinction from the University of Western Ontario in 1993 and a Bachelor of Laws with Distinction from Osgoode Hall Law School in 1996. He was admitted to the Nunavut Bar in 1997.

Mr. Angalik Sr. has been a sole practitioner since 2002, where he has practiced in all levels of court in Nunavut, as well as the Federal Court and the Supreme Court of Canada. He has extensive experience in criminal law, civil litigation, aboriginal law, child protection, and regulatory law.

Mr. Angalik Sr. has been actively involved in the legal community and broader community in Nunavut. He was a member of the Nunavut Law Society’s Legal Specialization Committee and the Legal Aid Committee, and he served as Chair of the Legal Aid Committee. Mr. Angalik Sr. has been a long-time member of the Iqaluit Rotary Club. He served as President of the Club and received the Rotary Club’s Paul Harris Fellowship Award.
