Washington, D.C.—FBI Director Christopher Wray has named Timothy A. Ferguson as the Assistant Director of the Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) Division, effective March 1, 2025.

Mr. Ferguson has more than 30 years of experience in law enforcement and criminal justice information systems, most recently serving as the Chief of the Division’s Technology Branch. In this role, he led the development and implementation of cutting-edge technologies to enhance information sharing and interoperability across the criminal justice community.

“Tim brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to this critical position,” said Director Wray. “His leadership and expertise will be invaluable as we continue to modernize our systems and ensure that law enforcement has the best tools available to protect the public.”

As Assistant Director of CJIS, Mr. Ferguson will oversee the Division’s mission to provide law enforcement agencies with access to timely, accurate, and comprehensive criminal justice information. This includes managing the National Crime Information Center (NCIC), the FBI’s centralized repository of law enforcement data, as well as a wide range of other programs and services.

“I am honored to be selected for this opportunity to lead the CJIS Division,” said Mr. Ferguson. “I am committed to building upon the Division’s strong foundation and working with our partners in law enforcement and the criminal justice community to ensure the safety and security of our nation.”

Mr. Ferguson joined the FBI in 1995 as a Special Agent and has held various leadership positions within the CJIS Division. He has received numerous awards for his accomplishments, including the FBI Director’s Award for Exceptional Service and the Attorney General’s Award for Exceptional Service.

Mr. Ferguson holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice from the University of Central Florida and a Master of Science degree in Information Systems from the George Washington University. He is also a graduate of the FBI National Academy and the FBI Senior Leadership Program.
