February 18, 2025
The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) is pleased to announce the appointment of Timothy A. Ferguson as the new Assistant Director of the Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) Division, effective immediately.
Ferguson brings over 30 years of law enforcement and technology experience to his new role. He previously served as the Deputy Assistant Director of the FBI’s Cyber Division, where he led efforts to combat cybercrime, protect critical infrastructure, and support national security investigations.
As Assistant Director of CJIS, Ferguson will oversee the division responsible for managing and disseminating criminal justice information, including the FBI’s national crime database, the National Crime Information Center (NCIC). He will also be responsible for developing and implementing new technologies and solutions to enhance information sharing and collaboration among law enforcement agencies.
“Tim is an exceptional leader with a proven track record of success in law enforcement and technology,” said FBI Director Christopher Wray. “His expertise and experience will be invaluable as we continue to modernize our systems and improve our ability to share information with our partners.”
Prior to joining the FBI, Ferguson served in various law enforcement roles, including as the Chief of Police for the City of Columbus, Ohio. He also worked as the Director of the Ohio Crime Prevention Commission and as an instructor at the Ohio State University Police Academy.
Ferguson holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice from Ferris State University and a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree from the University of Phoenix. He is a graduate of the FBI’s National Executive Institute and the FBI’s Senior Executive Management Institute.
In his new role, Ferguson will lead a team of over 1,000 employees responsible for collecting, analyzing, and disseminating criminal justice information to law enforcement agencies across the country and around the world. He will also be responsible for overseeing CJIS operations, including the development and maintenance of the FBI’s network infrastructure and its flagship systems, such as NCIC and the Law Enforcement Enterprise Portal (LEEP).
“I am honored to be appointed as the Assistant Director of the CJIS Division,” said Ferguson. “I look forward to working with our dedicated team to continue our mission of providing law enforcement agencies with the information and tools they need to protect our communities.”
