UK condemns attacks on displaced civilians in Sudan: UK statement at the UN Security Council
17 February 2025
The UK has condemned attacks on displaced civilians in Sudan and called for an immediate end to the violence.
Speaking at the UN Security Council, UK Ambassador to the UN Barbara Woodward said:
“The UK strongly condemns the recent attacks on displaced civilians in Sudan. These attacks are a violation of international law and must stop immediately.
“We are deeply concerned about the safety of displaced civilians in Sudan. These people have already been forced to flee their homes and are now facing further violence.
“The UK calls on all parties to the conflict in Sudan to respect international humanitarian law and to protect civilians. We also call for an immediate end to the violence and for a political solution to the conflict.”
The UK is providing £100 million in humanitarian aid to Sudan. This aid is helping to provide food, water, shelter and medical care to displaced civilians.
The UK is also working with the UN and other international partners to support the peace process in Sudan. We believe that a political solution is the only way to end the conflict and bring lasting peace to Sudan.
