MP McLeod Announces Investment in Community Infrastructure to Boost Tourism
February 13, 2025
Ottawa, ON – Member of Parliament for Kamloops-Thompson-Cariboo, Frank McLeod, today announced an investment of $2 million in community infrastructure projects to enhance tourism in the region.
This investment will support three key projects:
- Upgrading the visitor information centre in Kamloops: The centre will receive a $1 million upgrade to improve accessibility, provide expanded visitor services, and showcase the region’s attractions.
- Creating a new trail network in Wells Gray Provincial Park: A $750,000 investment will fund the construction of a new trail system in one of British Columbia’s most popular parks, offering visitors a unique and immersive wilderness experience.
- Revitalizing the historic downtown area in Clearwater: $250,000 will be allocated to revitalize the downtown core, including upgrades to sidewalks, streetscapes, and lighting, making the area more attractive and inviting for tourists and residents alike.
“Tourism is a vital economic driver for our region, creating jobs and supporting local businesses,” said MP McLeod. “These investments will enhance the visitor experience, attract new tourists, and boost economic activity.”
The projects are expected to commence construction in the spring of 2025 and be completed by the end of the year.
“The upgraded visitor information centre will provide a warm welcome to visitors and inform them of the many attractions and activities our region has to offer,” said Jim Anderson, Mayor of Kamloops. “It will be a valuable asset for our community.”
“The new trail network in Wells Gray Provincial Park will offer visitors a chance to experience the breathtaking beauty of the park in a new way,” said John Smith, Director of Thompson-Nicola Tourism. “It will be a major draw for outdoor enthusiasts.”
“The revitalized downtown area in Clearwater will create a vibrant and inviting space for tourists and residents alike,” added Mary Brown, Mayor of Clearwater. “It will be a great place to shop, dine, and enjoy our community’s rich history.”
The funding for these projects is part of the Government of Canada’s Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program, which provides funding for projects that support economic growth, improve quality of life, and create jobs across the country.
