Chase Briscoe Claims First Daytona 500 Pole for Toyota
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (Feb. 13, 2025) – Chase Briscoe put Toyota in the catbird seat for the 65th running of the Daytona 500 with a dominating performance in time trials Saturday at Daytona International Speedway.
Briscoe, driver of the No. 14 Mahindra Tractors Toyota Camry for Stewart-Haas Racing, turned a lap at 193.461 mph to earn the first Daytona 500 pole of his career and the sixth for Toyota overall in “The Great American Race.” His Ford Performance teammate Ryan Blaney was second-fastest (193.231 mph) followed by Hendrick Motorsports driver William Byron (193.221 mph) in his Chevrolet.
“That was the best lap we’ve had all week, and it came at the right time,” said Briscoe, who won the 2020 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series championship. “This is a dream come true. The Daytona 500 is the biggest race in our sport, and to win the pole for it is incredible. I’m so proud of everyone on this Mahindra Tractors team for the hard work they’ve put in to get us to this point.”
Briscoe’s pole is the first for Stewart-Haas Racing since Kevin Harvick won the 2017 Daytona 500. It is also the first pole for Toyota since Denny Hamlin won the 2020 Daytona 500.
“This is a huge moment for Chase and for our entire team,” said Stewart-Haas Racing co-owner Tony Stewart. “Chase has worked incredibly hard to get to this point, and he deserves all the success that comes his way.”
In addition to Briscoe, two other Toyota drivers qualified in the top 10: Ty Gibbs (fourth) and Hamlin (ninth).
The 65th running of the Daytona 500 is scheduled for Sunday, Feb. 19, at 2:30 p.m. ET on FOX.
