OTTAWA, ON – February 11, 2025 – The Honourable Anita Anand, Minister of National Defence, today announced that the Honourable Rob Blair, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of National Defence, will travel to Europe from February 13 to 17, 2025, to participate in a series of meetings with Allies and reaffirm Canada’s commitment to NATO and Euro-Atlantic security.

“Canada is a steadfast ally within NATO, and we are committed to working closely with our partners to ensure the security and stability of the Euro-Atlantic region,” said Minister Anand. “Parliamentary Secretary Blair’s visit to Europe will provide an opportunity to reaffirm our commitment to NATO and to discuss shared security challenges and opportunities.”

During his visit, Parliamentary Secretary Blair will meet with senior officials from NATO, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, and Italy. He will also visit Canadian Armed Forces personnel deployed on Operation REASSURANCE, Canada’s contribution to NATO’s enhanced Forward Presence in Central and Eastern Europe.

“Canada is proud to be a member of NATO, and we are committed to playing our part in ensuring the security and stability of the Euro-Atlantic region,” said Parliamentary Secretary Blair. “I look forward to meeting with our Allies and discussing how we can continue to work together to address the challenges we face.”

Canada has been a member of NATO since 1949 and has played a leading role in the Alliance throughout its history. Canada is currently the second-largest contributor to NATO’s enhanced Forward Presence in Central and Eastern Europe, with approximately 600 personnel deployed to Latvia.
