The Canadian International Trade Tribunal (CITT) has initiated an expiry review of the anti-dumping and countervailing duty orders in respect of hot-rolled carbon steel plate originating in or exported from Brazil, the Republic of Korea, Japan, the Kingdom of Denmark, the Republic of Indonesia, and the Italian Republic. The goods in question are currently classified under tariff item numbers 7208.40.00.10, 7208.40.00.90, 7208.51.00.10, 7208.51.00.90, 7208.52.00.10, 7208.52.00.90, 7208.90.00.11, 7208.90.00.19, 7208.90.00.91 and 7208.90.00.99 of the Canadian Customs Tariff.
The review is the result of a request made by Algoma Steel Inc. (Algoma), of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario. Algoma is the sole Canadian producer of hot-rolled carbon steel plate.
The CITT will conduct an investigation to determine whether the expiry of the orders is likely to result in the continuation or resumption of dumping and/or subsidizing of the goods in Canada. The investigation will also examine the likelihood of injury to the Canadian industry producing like goods.
Interested parties are invited to make submissions to the CITT by March 17, 2025. The CITT will hold a public hearing in Ottawa, Ontario, on April 15-16, 2025.
The CITT is an independent quasi-judicial body that reports to Parliament through the Minister of Finance. The CITT conducts inquiries into matters related to international trade and investment.
