Government of Canada Investing Over $1.7 Million in Outdoor Tourism Projects Across Northern Ontario
February 6, 2025 – The Government of Canada is investing over $1.7 million in 10 outdoor tourism projects across Northern Ontario through the Canadian Experiences Fund (CEF). This investment will support the growth of the tourism sector in the region, creating jobs and boosting the local economy.
The CEF is a $500 million fund that supports tourism businesses and organizations to create new and enhance existing tourism products, experiences, and attractions. The fund is administered by the Federal Economic Development Agency for Northern Ontario (FedNor).

- $300,000 for the expansion of the snowmobile trail network in Cochrane.
- $250,000 for the construction of a new visitor centre at the Quetico Provincial Park.
- $200,000 for the development of a new Indigenous tourism experience in Kenora.
- $150,000 for the expansion of the mountain bike trail network in Sault Ste. Marie.
- $125,000 for the development of a new canoe route in Timmins.
- $100,000 for the construction of a new fishing pier in North Bay.
- $75,000 for the expansion of the cross-country ski trail network in Sudbury.
- $50,000 for the development of a new snowshoeing trail system in Elliot Lake.
- $25,000 for the construction of a new birdwatching platform in Wawa.
These projects are expected to create over 100 jobs and generate over $2 million in economic activity in the region.
