Ottawa, Ontario – Today, the Honourable Harjit S. Sajjan, Minister of International Development and Minister responsible for the Pacific Economic Development Agency of Canada, announced more than $87 million in funding to support climate action and economic development in developing countries. This announcement was made during International Development Week, which runs from February 5 to 11, 2025.
Climate action
The Government of Canada is committed to working with its partners to address the global climate crisis. Today’s announcement includes $50 million for the Climate Action for the Least Developed Countries Fund, which will support projects that help the most vulnerable countries adapt to and mitigate the effects of climate change.
Economic development
The Government of Canada is also committed to supporting sustainable economic development in developing countries. Today’s announcement includes $37 million for the Women’s Economic Empowerment Fund, which will support projects that promote women’s entrepreneurship and leadership in developing countries.
