February 4, 2025
Vancouver, British Columbia – Canada’s National Research Council Industrial Research Assistance Program (NRC IRAP) and Innovate BC are pleased to announce an investment of over $2 million in six British Columbia cleantech projects through the BC Fast Pilot program.
The BC Fast Pilot program is a collaborative initiative between NRC IRAP and Innovate BC that accelerates the development and commercialization of cleantech solutions in British Columbia. The program provides funding, mentorship, and access to industry experts to early-stage cleantech companies.
The six projects selected for funding are:
- Aevum Labs Inc.: Developing a novel electrochemical process for the production of hydrogen peroxide, a critical chemical used in various industries.
- Burning Bush Energy Inc.: Demonstrating a decentralized, hydrogen-based energy storage system for remote communities.
- Carbon Engineering Ltd.: Advancing a direct air capture technology that removes carbon dioxide from the atmosphere.
- CellCarta Inc.: Developing a bio-based membrane that can separate hydrogen from other gases, improving the efficiency of hydrogen production.
- Electra Battery Materials Corporation: Improving the safety and efficiency of lithium-ion batteries for electric vehicles.
- Evok Innovations Inc.: Creating a solar-powered, off-grid energy storage system for developing countries.
“These projects represent the innovative spirit and potential of British Columbia’s cleantech sector,” said Ronghui Xu, NRC IRAP’s Regional Manager for British Columbia. “NRC IRAP is proud to support these companies as they work to bring their groundbreaking technologies to market.”
“Innovate BC is committed to supporting the growth of cleantech in British Columbia,” said Raghwa Gopal, CEO of Innovate BC. “The BC Fast Pilot program provides these companies with the resources they need to accelerate their development and commercialize their solutions.”
The BC Fast Pilot program is open to early-stage cleantech companies in British Columbia. Applications for the next round of funding will be accepted in the fall of 2025.
