EU, Urso meets Paszyk: Italy and Poland in full agreement on the revision of European industrial policy
Rome, 4 February 2023 – Minister of Enterprise and Made in Italy Adolfo Urso met today in Warsaw with his Polish counterpart Anna Moskwa to discuss the revision of European industrial policy in a strategic context heavily conditioned by the war in Ukraine and the recent US inflation reduction act.
In this context, the two Ministers agreed to consider the recent communication from the European Commission entitled “Strengthening the Single Market for a resilient and sovereign Europe” as a good starting point for relaunching discussions on the new industrial policy of the Union.
Urso announced that the Italian Presidency of the Council will propose to the European Commission a format of work on a specific regulation on foreign subsidies which, even before being included in the Single Market package, could already be ready by summer.
“We have a unique opportunity to define a European industrial policy focused on strategic sectors to safeguard production in Europe,” said Minister Urso. “We will work together to support those sectors identified by the Commission as “game-changers” for resilience: renewable energies, artificial intelligence, circular economy and key aspects related to the digitalization and connectivity of all sectors”.
The aim is to create a larger internal market, as requested by the European Commission. At the same time, Italy and Poland intend to jointly pursue the objectives of autonomy in strategic supply chains and reciprocity in accessing each other’s internal markets, in order to jointly face the challenge of the Green Transition.
“Today’s meeting was crucial in coordinating our positions with Poland,” continued Minister Urso. “We have implemented an important agreement that can lead to the emergence of a new European industrial policy. We are determined to work with all the other Member States to relaunch European industry in strategic sectors such as new energy sources, defense, electronics and artificial intelligence, digitalization and connectivity.”
