PacifiCan, the federal agency responsible for economic development in British Columbia, today announced an investment of $17 million to support business growth across the province.
The investment will be used to provide loans, equity investments, and advisory services to small and medium-sized businesses (SMEs) in a variety of sectors, including clean technology, tourism, and manufacturing.
“Our government is committed to supporting the growth of small businesses in British Columbia,” said the Honourable Harjit S. Sajjan, Minister of International Development and Minister responsible for the Pacific Economic Development Agency of Canada (PacifiCan). “This investment will help businesses create jobs, innovate, and compete in the global marketplace.”
The investment is part of PacifiCan’s broader efforts to support economic development in British Columbia. In recent years, PacifiCan has invested over $200 million in businesses across the province, helping to create over 10,000 jobs.
“PacifiCan has been a valuable partner for our business,” said Sarah Kenway, CEO of Electra Battery Materials. “Their investment has helped us to grow our operations and create jobs in British Columbia.”
The $17 million investment will be distributed through a variety of programs, including:
