Funding will help expand and renovate The Guild

CHARLOTTETOWN, PE – The Government of Canada is investing in the renovation and expansion of The Guild, a cornerstone of Prince Edward Island’s arts and culture scene. The Honourable Lawrence MacAulay, Minister of Veterans Affairs and Associate Minister of National Defence, on behalf of the Honourable Pablo Rodriguez, Minister of Canadian Heritage, today announced funding of $3.8 million to support this important project.

This funding will enable The Guild to expand its facilities and improve its accessibility, creating a more vibrant and inclusive space for artists, performers, and the community. The renovations will include:

  • Expansion of the theatre, increasing its capacity from 200 to 300 seats
  • Creation of a new multi-purpose space for rehearsals, workshops, and community events
  • Accessibility upgrades, including an elevator and ramps
  • Upgrades to the building’s mechanical and electrical systems

“The Guild is a vital part of Prince Edward Island’s cultural landscape,” said Minister MacAulay. “This investment will help expand its facilities and improve its accessibility, creating a more vibrant and inclusive space for artists, performers, and the community.”

“The Guild is grateful for this significant investment from the Government of Canada,” said The Guild’s Executive Director, Tamara Steele. “This funding will allow us to expand our facilities and improve our accessibility, creating a more welcoming and inspiring space for artists and the community.”

The Guild is a non-profit arts organization that provides a wide range of programming, including theatre, music, dance, and visual arts. It is a hub for artists and performers, and a gathering place for the community.

The Government of Canada is committed to supporting the arts and culture sector, which is an important part of our economy and our communities. This investment in The Guild will help to create a more vibrant and inclusive cultural space for all Prince Edward Islanders.
