
Shinjiro Koizumi (小泉 進次郎, Koizumi Shinjirō, born 19 April 1981) is a Japanese politician serving as the Minister of the Environment since 2019 and member of the House of Representatives for the 11th district of Kanagawa prefecture since 2017. He is the son of former Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi.
Political career
Koizumi was first elected to the House of Representatives in 2009, representing the 11th district of Kanagawa prefecture. He was re-elected in 2012, 2014, and 2017. In 2019, he was appointed Minister of the Environment by Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.
Koizumi is a member of the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP). He is considered to be a rising star in Japanese politics. He is known for his conservative views and his support for free-market economics. He is also a strong supporter of environmental protection.
Personal life
Koizumi is married to Christel Takigawa, a newscaster for TV Asahi. They have one daughter.
