“We are here for the long-term,” said Martin Griffiths, the UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator. “We are not going anywhere.”
Griffiths was speaking at a press conference in Kyiv, where he met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and other senior government officials.
He said that the UN was providing humanitarian assistance to more than 10 million people in Ukraine, including food, water, shelter, and healthcare.
“We are also working to protect civilians from the violence,” Griffiths said. “We are calling for an immediate ceasefire and an end to the fighting.”
Griffiths said that the UN was also working to help Ukraine rebuild its infrastructure and economy.
“We are committed to helping Ukraine recover from this conflict,” Griffiths said. “We are here to help the people of Ukraine build a better future.”
Zelenskyy thanked Griffiths for the UN’s support.
“We are grateful for the UN’s commitment to Ukraine,” Zelenskyy said. “We know that we can count on the UN to help us through this difficult time.”
