Ottawa, December 10, 2024 – Today, the Honourable Anita Anand, Minister of National Defence and Deputy Prime Minister, announced the members of the Working Group on Public Service Productivity.
The Working Group is tasked with providing advice and recommendations to the government on how to improve the productivity of the public service. This includes identifying opportunities for innovation, improving efficiency, and reducing bureaucracy.
The Working Group is composed of a diverse group of experts from the public and private sectors. Members include:
- Dr. David Emerson, former Minister of Industry and Minister of Foreign Affairs
- Ms. Shelly Glover, former Member of Parliament and Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Finance
- Mr. David Moloney, former Clerk of the Privy Council and Secretary to the Cabinet
- Ms. Mona Fortier, President and CEO of the Canadian Council for Aboriginal Business
- Mr. David Mitchell, President and CEO of the Business Council of Canada
- Ms. Janice Mak, former Deputy Minister of Health
- Mr. Ron MacDonald, former President of the Public Service Alliance of Canada
- Mr. Derek Burney, former Canadian Ambassador to the United States
The Working Group will be chaired by Dr. Emerson. The Group will report to the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defence on a regular basis.
“The public service is the backbone of our government,” said Minister Anand. “We need to ensure that it is as productive and efficient as possible so that we can continue to deliver high-quality services to Canadians.”
The Working Group will hold its first meeting in January 2025.
