Mark Duguid, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Natural Resources, today announced a federal investment of $2 million to support energy efficiency initiatives in Manitoba.
The funding, provided through Natural Resources Canada’s Clean Energy for Rural and Remote Communities (CERRC) program, will be used to implement energy efficiency retrofits in up to 100 low-income households in rural and remote communities across the province.
“Our government is committed to helping Canadians save money on their energy bills while reducing greenhouse gas emissions,” said Duguid. “This investment will make a significant difference in the lives of low-income families in Manitoba, helping them to keep their homes warm and comfortable while also reducing their environmental impact.”
The CERRC program provides funding to support energy efficiency projects in rural and remote communities across Canada. The projects funded by this investment will include:
- Insulating attics and walls
- Replacing old windows and doors
- Installing energy-efficient appliances
Manitoba Hydro, the province’s largest utility, will be working with local contractors to deliver the energy efficiency retrofits. The program is expected to create up to 20 jobs in the province.
