Defra News 4th December 2024 The Access to the Countryside (Coastal Margin) (Eastbourne to Camber) (No. 1) Order 2024 This Order designates a new section of Coastal Margin, extending from Eastbourne to Camber in East Sussex. This section of Coastal Margin runs for approximately 30 kilometres between the Napoleonic Martello Tower at Redoubt, to the east of Eastbourne, and Camber village, and is mostly associated with the extensive shingle beaches, sand dunes and saltmarsh of the Pevensey Levels. These habitats are important for a wide range of wildlife, and the Coastal Margin designation will help to protect them for future generations. The Order also includes land at the Sovereign Harbour development, the western end of Sovereign Harbour and the land west of the Royal Military Canal. This Order was made on the application of East Sussex County Council (ESCC) who has applied to the Secretary of State for the designation of a new section of Coastal Margin between Eastbourne and Camber in East Sussex by virtue of the powers contained in Section 31(1) of the Countryside and Rights of Way Act 2000 [as amended by Section 165 and Schedule 12 of the Marine and Coastal Access Act 2009 ]. The Order comes into force on 19th December 2024. A map showing the extent of the new Coastal Margin is available on the Defra website at: www.defra.gov.uk/evidence/statistics/foodfarming/enviro nment/coastalaccess/coastalmargin/#eastbourne-camber Copies of the Order can be purchased from The Stationery Office.
