Canadian Space Agency to Host the Aqualunar Challenge Innovator Bootcamp

November 26, 2024 – The Canadian Space Agency (CSA) is thrilled to announce the launch of the Aqualunar Challenge Innovator Bootcamp, a unique opportunity for Canadian innovators to develop their lunar water prospecting technologies and contribute to the exploration of the Moon.

The bootcamp will take place from June 12-16, 2025, in Toronto, Ontario. It will bring together a select group of entrepreneurs, researchers, and students from across Canada who are working on innovative technologies for detecting, extracting, and utilizing water on the Moon.

The Aqualunar Challenge is a global competition organized by NASA and the European Space Agency (ESA). The competition aims to advance technologies that can locate and extract water on the Moon, a critical resource for future lunar missions.

The Innovator Bootcamp will provide participants with the opportunity to:

  • Learn about the latest lunar water prospecting technologies
  • Network with experts from the CSA, NASA, and ESA
  • Receive mentorship from industry leaders
  • Develop and refine their technology concepts

“The Aqualunar Challenge Innovator Bootcamp is an exciting opportunity for Canadian innovators to contribute to the exploration of the Moon and the advancement of lunar water prospecting technologies,” said Dr. Lisa Campbell, President of the Canadian Space Agency. “We are eager to see the innovative ideas that emerge from this bootcamp and support the development of technologies that will enable future lunar missions.”

Participants will work in teams to develop their technology concepts, which will be evaluated by a panel of experts from the CSA, NASA, and ESA. The top-placing teams will receive funding to further develop their technologies and potentially participate in the Aqualunar Challenge.

“The Moon is the next frontier in space exploration, and Canada is well-positioned to contribute to its exploration through our expertise in robotics, remote sensing, and lunar science,” said Jim Carr, Minister of Innovation, Science and Industry. “The Aqualunar Challenge Innovator Bootcamp is a great example of how we are supporting Canadian innovators to push the boundaries of space exploration.”
