CBSA officers in Halifax seize 425 kilograms of suspected cannabis; two individuals charged by police
Halifax, November 26, 2024 – Two individuals have been charged by police after Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) officers at the Port of Halifax seized approximately 425 kilograms of suspected cannabis.
On November 23, 2024, CBSA officers conducted a secondary examination of a commercial shipment that had arrived from the United States. During the examination, officers discovered several large duffel bags that contained vacuum-sealed packages of suspected cannabis.
The CBSA officers immediately contacted the Halifax Regional Police, who attended the scene and took custody of the suspected cannabis.
The two individuals who were in possession of the suspected cannabis were arrested by police and charged with the following offences:
- Possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking
- Importation of a controlled substance
The individuals were scheduled to appear in Halifax Provincial Court on November 26, 2024.
This seizure is a significant example of the ongoing efforts by the CBSA to prevent the smuggling of controlled substances into Canada. The CBSA is committed to working with its law enforcement partners to keep our communities safe.
