Ottawa, ON – November 25, 2024 – The Government of Canada is investing in the Dawson City and Watson Lake buildings to improve the safety and energy efficiency of these important federal facilities.
The investment of $7.5 million will go towards replacing the roofs, windows, and doors of the Dawson City building, as well as upgrading the heating and cooling systems. The Watson Lake building will receive $5 million for similar upgrades, including the installation of new solar panels.
These upgrades will not only make the buildings more comfortable and energy-efficient, but they will also help to reduce the government’s greenhouse gas emissions. The new roofs, windows, and doors will help to insulate the buildings and reduce heat loss, while the new heating and cooling systems will be more efficient than the old ones. The solar panels will generate clean, renewable energy that can be used to power the buildings.
“These investments will make the Dawson City and Watson Lake buildings more comfortable, energy-efficient, and environmentally friendly,” said the Honourable Patty Hajdu, Minister of Public Services and Procurement. “These upgrades will also help to reduce the government’s greenhouse gas emissions and contribute to our climate change goals.”
The work on the Dawson City building is expected to be completed by the fall of 2025, while the work on the Watson Lake building is expected to be completed by the spring of 2026.
