The Honourable Harjit S. Sajjan and Parliamentary Secretary Taleeb Noormohamed Highlight the Government’s Tax Break for All Canadians and New Working Canadians Rebate
November 24, 2024
Ottawa, Ontario – Today, the Honourable Harjit S. Sajjan, Minister of National Defence, and Taleeb Noormohamed, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of National Revenue, highlighted the Government of Canada’s tax break for all Canadians and the new Working Canadians Rebate.
“Our government is committed to making life more affordable for Canadians,” said Minister Sajjan. “This tax break will provide much-needed relief for families and individuals across the country.”
The tax break will increase the Basic Personal Amount (BPA) by $2,000 for the 2023 tax year. This means that Canadians will be able to earn more money before paying taxes. The BPA is the amount of income that Canadians can earn tax-free.
“We know that many Canadians are struggling to make ends meet,” said Parliamentary Secretary Noormohamed. “This tax break will put more money in the pockets of Canadians, helping them to pay for the things they need, like groceries, gas, and housing.”
The new Working Canadians Rebate will provide a refundable tax credit of up to $250 for low- and middle-income workers. This rebate will help to offset the costs of working, such as transportation and childcare.
“We are committed to supporting working Canadians,” said Minister Sajjan. “This rebate will help to make work pay for more Canadians.”
The tax break and the Working Canadians Rebate are part of the Government of Canada’s plan to make life more affordable for Canadians. The government is also investing in affordable housing, childcare, and public transit.
“We are taking action to make life more affordable for Canadians,” said Parliamentary Secretary Noormohamed. “This tax break and the Working Canadians Rebate are just two examples of how we are working to put more money in the pockets of Canadians.”
