State Department of Transportation to Host Public Information Meeting on Proposed Highway Rehabilitation Project on State Route 5 in Erie County

The proposed project will rehabilitate approximately 4.5 miles of State Route 5 from just south of Pleasant Avenue in Hamburg to just north of Lehigh Valley Road in Lackawanna. The work will include:

  • Resurfacing the roadway with new asphalt pavement
  • Replacing the existing concrete guiderail with new steel guiderail
  • Replacing the deteriorating timber box culverts with new concrete culverts
  • Upgrading drainage structures
  • Adding accessible pedestrian ramps
  • Installing new pavement markings and signage

The project is scheduled to begin in the spring of 2025 and is expected to be completed by the fall of 2026. The estimated cost of the project is $20 million.
