I also held a number of bilateral meetings with other world leaders at the summit, including:
- President Biden of the United States
- President Xi Jinping of China

- Chancellor Scholz of Germany
These meetings were an opportunity to discuss a range of issues of mutual interest, including climate change, trade, and security.
The COP29 summit was held in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt, from 6-18 November. The summit brought together representatives from almost 200 countries to discuss the implementation of the Paris Agreement.
I am pleased to report that the summit was also a success. Negotiators agreed on a number of important outcomes, including:
- Agreement on a new global goal to reduce emissions by 45% by 2030
- A commitment to provide $100 billion annually to developing countries to help them mitigate and adapt to climate change
- A call for an end to the use of unabated coal-fired power plants by 2040
I also held a number of bilateral meetings with other world leaders at the summit, including:
- President Biden of the United States
- President Xi Jinping of China
- Prime Minister Modi of India
- President al-Sisi of Egypt
These meetings were an opportunity to discuss a range of issues related to climate change, including finance, technology, and capacity building.
Mr Speaker, the G20 and COP29 summits were important milestones in the global fight against climate change. The agreements reached at these summits will help to accelerate the transition to a clean energy future and build a more sustainable and prosperous world for all.
I commend the Indian and Egyptian presidencies for their leadership in hosting these important summits. I also thank the many diplomats, negotiators, and civil society representatives who worked tirelessly to secure these agreements.
The United Kingdom will continue to play a leading role in the fight against climate change. We will work with our partners around the world to implement the agreements reached at the G20 and COP29 summits and build a cleaner, greener, and more prosperous future for all.
