- November 22, 2024
Governor Kathy Hochul today announced $41.5 million in funding for highway improvements in Sullivan County. The funding will be used to repave and rehabilitate approximately 20 miles of state highways, including Route 17, Route 52, and Route 17B. The projects will also include improvements to drainage, signage, and guardrails.
“These highway improvements are critical to the safety and economic vitality of Sullivan County,” said Governor Hochul. “By investing in our infrastructure, we are making it easier for residents and businesses to get around, and we are helping to attract new investment and create jobs.”
The following projects will be funded through the governor’s initiative:
- Repaving and rehabilitation of approximately 10 miles of Route 17 from the Delaware County line to Exit 94 in the Town of Thompson. The project will also include improvements to drainage, signage, and guardrails.
- Repaving and rehabilitation of approximately 5 miles of Route 52 from the Village of Liberty to the Town of Fallsburg. The project will also include improvements to drainage and signage.
- Repaving and rehabilitation of approximately 5 miles of Route 17B from the Village of Roscoe to the Town of Rockland. The project will also include improvements to drainage, signage, and guardrails.
The projects are expected to begin in spring 2025 and be completed by fall 2026.
“These highway improvements are a welcome investment in Sullivan County,” said Sullivan County Chairman Robert Dean. “They will make our roads safer and more efficient, which will benefit both residents and businesses.”
The funding for these projects is part of Governor Hochul’s $9 billion investment in transportation infrastructure across New York State. The investment includes $5 billion for highways and bridges, $2 billion for public transportation, and $2 billion for airports and ports.
“This investment in our transportation infrastructure is essential to the future of New York State,” said Governor Hochul. “By investing in our roads, bridges, and public transportation, we are creating jobs, growing our economy, and improving the quality of life for all New Yorkers.”
