Windsor, Ontario – The Government of Canada today announced funding to support religious organizations in Windsor in protecting themselves against hate-motivated crimes.

The funding, which totals $250,000, will be provided through the Security Infrastructure Program (SIP). The SIP is a national program that provides funding to faith-based organizations and other eligible institutions to implement security measures to protect themselves against hate-motivated crimes.

“Our government is committed to protecting the safety and security of all Canadians, including members of religious communities,” said the Honourable Marco Mendicino, Minister of Public Safety. “This funding will help religious organizations in Windsor take steps to protect themselves against hate-motivated crimes and make their communities safer.”

The funding will be used to implement a range of security measures, including:

  • Physical security measures, such as security cameras, fencing, and lighting
  • Training for staff and volunteers on how to respond to hate-motivated crimes
  • Community outreach programs to raise awareness of hate-motivated crimes and promote tolerance and understanding

“We are grateful for this funding from the Government of Canada,” said Rabbi David Cohen, President of the Windsor Jewish Community Council. “This funding will allow us to implement important security measures that will help protect our community from hate-motivated crimes.”

“This funding is a welcome step forward in the fight against hate-motivated crimes,” said Imam Sayyed Ali Abbas, President of the Muslim Association of Windsor. “We hope that this funding will help us to create a safer and more inclusive community for all.”

The Government of Canada is committed to working with religious organizations and other community groups to combat hate-motivated crimes and make Canada a more inclusive and welcoming place for all.
