Sanctions: Ordinance on measures against Sudan

Bern, 12.11.2024 – On 11 November 2024, the Federal Council adopted an ordinance on measures against Sudan. This ordinance implements the sanctions imposed by the United Nations Security Council with Resolution 2577 (2024) of 22 October 2024.

The measures target individuals and entities designated by the UN Security Council for their involvement in serious human rights violations, including attacks against civilians, the obstruction of humanitarian assistance, and violations of international humanitarian law.

The ordinance prohibits the provision of financial resources, goods or services to designated individuals and entities, as well as the freezing of their assets. It also prohibits travel to Switzerland by designated individuals.

The ordinance is based on the Federal Act on Foreign Nationals and Integration (FNA) and the Ordinance on Measures against Certain States (MEAC). It will enter into force on 12 November 2024.

The Federal Council is committed to the implementation of UN Security Council resolutions and the fight against serious human rights violations. The measures imposed by this ordinance will contribute to these efforts.
