WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Deputy Secretary of Defense Kathleen H. Hicks met with the Defense Business Board (DBB) virtually to discuss the department’s priorities and seek industry input on a range of issues.
The DBB is a federal advisory committee composed of senior executives from the defense industry. The board provides advice and recommendations to the Secretary of Defense on matters related to the acquisition and sustainment of defense capabilities.
During the meeting, Deputy Secretary Hicks provided an overview of the department’s priorities, including the National Defense Strategy, the Joint All-Domain Command and Control (JADC2) concept, and the Department’s efforts to modernize its acquisition processes.
She also discussed the department’s ongoing efforts to strengthen its partnerships with industry and academia.
“Our partnerships with industry and academia are essential to our ability to meet the challenges of the future,” said Deputy Secretary Hicks. “We rely on your expertise and innovation to help us develop and field the capabilities our warfighters need.”
The DBB members shared their perspectives on a range of issues, including:

- The importance of the department’s efforts to strengthen its partnerships with industry and academia.
- The challenges and opportunities associated with the development and implementation of the JADC2 concept.
Deputy Secretary Hicks thanked the DBB members for their insights and recommendations.

The meeting was attended by approximately 20 DBB members, as well as senior leaders from the Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Acquisition and Sustainment.
