Marlins Hire Former Dodgers 1B Coach McCullough as Manager
November 11, 2024
MIAMI, Fla. – The Miami Marlins have hired former Los Angeles Dodgers first base coach Brant McCullough as their new manager, the team announced Monday.
McCullough, 54, spent the past three seasons with the Dodgers, helping lead the team to three consecutive National League West division titles and two World Series appearances. He previously served as the bench coach for the Tampa Bay Rays from 2015-2021.
As a player, McCullough spent 13 seasons in the majors with the Chicago Cubs, Cleveland Indians, Arizona Diamondbacks, and San Diego Padres. He was a two-time All-Star and Gold Glove winner at first base.
“We are thrilled to welcome Brant McCullough as the manager of the Miami Marlins,” Marlins president of baseball operations Kim Ng said in a statement. “Brant has a proven track record of success both as a player and a coach, and we believe he is the right person to lead our team to the next level.”
McCullough takes over a Marlins team that has struggled in recent years, finishing with a losing record in each of the past four seasons. However, the Marlins have a talented young core led by shortstop Jazz Chisholm Jr., outfielder JJ Bleday, and starting pitcher Sandy Alcantara.
“I am honored and excited to be the next manager of the Miami Marlins,” McCullough said in a statement. “I believe in this team and this organization, and I am confident that we can achieve great things together.”
McCullough will be introduced to the media at a press conference on Tuesday.
