Green Shipping Corridor Program – Quebec based project funding
November 8, 2024 02:49 PM
The Government of Canada is investing over $27 million in three Quebec-based projects under the Green Shipping Corridor Program. This program supports the development of zero-emission marine vessels and infrastructure to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from the marine sector.
The three Quebec-based projects that will receive funding are:
- The Port of Montreal will receive $15 million to develop a shore power system that will allow ships to plug into the electrical grid while at berth, reducing emissions from auxiliary engines.
- STQ GNL will receive $7.5 million to build a liquefied natural gas (LNG) bunkering vessel that will supply LNG to ships in the Port of Quebec. LNG is a cleaner burning fuel than traditional marine fuels, and can help to reduce emissions of greenhouse gases and air pollutants.
- Eocycle Technologies will receive $5 million to develop a hydrogen fuel cell system for marine vessels. Hydrogen fuel cells produce electricity through a chemical reaction between hydrogen and oxygen, and emit only water vapor.
These projects are part of the Government of Canada’s commitment to reducing greenhouse gas emissions from the marine sector. The Green Shipping Corridor Program is a key part of this commitment, and will help to accelerate the development of zero-emission marine technologies and infrastructure.
The Government of Canada is committed to working with partners to build a clean, sustainable marine transportation system. These projects will help to reduce emissions from the marine sector, and contribute to Canada’s climate change goals.
