Governor. Swearing-in ceremony as a natural-born member of the Council of State
Madrid, November 7, 2024
Today, the Governor of the Bank of Spain, Mr. Pablo Hernández de Cos, took the oath of office as a natural-born member of the Council of State, in a ceremony presided over by His Majesty the King, Felipe VI.
The act took place at the Royal Palace in Madrid and was attended by the Vice-President of the Government, Mrs. Nadia Calviño, the Minister of the Presidency, Relations with the Cortes and Democratic Memory, Mr. Félix Bolaños, and the Secretary General of the Council of State, Mr. Leopoldo Calvo-Sotelo Ibáñez-Martín.
The Governor of the Bank of Spain becomes a natural-born member of the Council of State by virtue of the position he holds, in accordance with the provisions of article 10.2 of Organic Law 3/1980, of June 22, regulating the Council of State.
The Council of State is the supreme consultative body of the Government and has, among other functions, the duty to inform the Government on issues that are submitted to it for consultation, as well as the power to act on its own initiative.
The Governor of the Bank of Spain has traditionally been a natural-born member of the Council of State, which reinforces the institution’s role as an advisor to the Government on economic and financial matters.
The presence of the Governor in the Council of State will allow him to contribute his knowledge and experience to the advisory work carried out by this institution, particularly in the areas of economics and finance.
