The European Parliament’s Committee on Foreign Affairs held a hearing today with Andrius Kubilius, Commissioner-designate for Neighbourhood and Enlargement.

Andrius Kubilius
Andrius Kubilius is a Lithuanian politician who has served as Prime Minister of Lithuania and as a Member of the European Parliament. He is a member of the Conservative Party of Lithuania.
Mr Kubilius was born in Vilnius, Lithuania, in 1956. He studied physics at Vilnius University and worked as a researcher at the Institute of Physics of the Academy of Sciences of Lithuania. He entered politics in 1988, when he joined the Sąjūdis movement, which was instrumental in Lithuania’s independence from the Soviet Union.
In 1993, Mr Kubilius was elected to the Lithuanian Parliament. He served as Prime Minister from 1999 to 2000 and again from 2008 to 2012. During his time as Prime Minister, he implemented a number of economic reforms and oversaw Lithuania’s accession to the European Union in 2004.
In 2014, Mr Kubilius was elected to the European Parliament. He is a member of the European People’s Party group.
