Minister Vandal Announces Partnership with NFI Group and Manitoba to Create the World-Leading “All-Canadian Build” Facility in Winnipeg

Winnipeg, Manitoba – October 25, 2024 – The Honourable Dan Vandal, Minister of Northern Affairs, Minister responsible for Prairies Economic Development Canada, and Minister responsible for the Canadian Northern Economic Development Agency, today announced a major partnership with NFI Group and the Province of Manitoba to create the world-leading “All-Canadian Build” facility in Winnipeg.

This state-of-the-art facility will be a centre of excellence for the design, development, and manufacturing of electric buses and other zero-emission vehicles. It will create hundreds of good-paying jobs and position Canada as a global leader in the clean transportation sector.

“This is a major investment in Canada’s future,” said Minister Vandal. “This facility will create good-paying jobs, reduce emissions, and help Canada meet its climate change goals. It is a win-win for our economy and our environment.”

The “All-Canadian Build” facility will be located at NFI Group’s existing manufacturing facility in Winnipeg. The facility will be expanded to include a new production line dedicated to the production of electric buses. The facility will also be equipped with the latest in manufacturing technology, including robotics and automation.

“We are excited to partner with the Government of Canada and the Province of Manitoba to create this world-leading facility,” said Paul Soubry, President and CEO of NFI Group. “This facility will allow us to meet the growing demand for electric buses and other zero-emission vehicles. It will also create hundreds of good-paying jobs in Winnipeg.”

The Government of Canada is investing $250 million in the “All-Canadian Build” facility through the Strategic Innovation Fund. The Province of Manitoba is investing $50 million. NFI Group is investing $100 million.

The “All-Canadian Build” facility is expected to be operational in 2026. It is expected to create 500 jobs during construction and 300 permanent jobs.

“This is a major investment in Manitoba’s economy,” said Premier Heather Stefanson. “This facility will create good-paying jobs and help us meet our climate change goals. It is a win-win for our province.”

The “All-Canadian Build” facility is a key part of Canada’s plan to reduce emissions and transition to a clean economy. The Government of Canada has committed to investing $2 billion in the clean transportation sector. This investment will help Canada meet its target of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 40% below 2005 levels by 2030.
