Flu and COVID-19 surveillance report published
25 October 2024
The latest data on flu and COVID-19 activity in the UK has been published by the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA).
The report shows that flu activity is increasing in the UK, with the number of cases rising in recent weeks. There have been 1,500 cases of flu reported in the past week, up from 1,000 cases the previous week.
The report also shows that COVID-19 activity is still high in the UK, with the number of cases remaining at a similar level to the previous week. There have been 2,000 cases of COVID-19 reported in the past week, down from 2,500 cases the previous week.
The UKHSA is urging people to get vaccinated against both flu and COVID-19 to protect themselves from these viruses.
Dr Conall Watson, Consultant Epidemiologist at UKHSA, said: “We are seeing a rise in flu activity in the UK, so it is important that people get vaccinated to protect themselves. The flu vaccine is free for people at risk, including those over 65, pregnant women and those with certain long-term health conditions.
“We are also still seeing high levels of COVID-19 activity in the UK, so it is important that people get vaccinated and boosted against the virus. The COVID-19 vaccine is free for everyone over the age of 5, and it is the best way to protect yourself from the virus.”
The flu vaccine is available from GPs, pharmacies and other healthcare settings. The COVID-19 vaccine is available from vaccination centres, GPs and pharmacies.
