Washington, DC – Mayor Muriel Bowser is encouraging District residents to participate in the National Prescription Drug Take Back Day on Saturday, October 29, from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm. The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and local law enforcement will collect expired, unused, or unwanted prescription medications at drop-off sites across the city.

“Prescription drug misuse is a serious public health issue, and we are committed to doing everything we can to address it,” said Mayor Bowser. “National Prescription Drug Take Back Day is an opportunity for residents to safely dispose of their unused medications and help keep them out of the wrong hands.”

According to the DEA, more than 1 million people misused prescription drugs in 2021. Prescription drug misuse can lead to addiction, overdose, and death. National Prescription Drug Take Back Day is an opportunity for residents to dispose of their unused medications safely and anonymously.

Residents can drop off their medications at any of the following locations on October 29:

  • DC Police Department Headquarters (300 Indiana Avenue NW)
  • Metropolitan Police Department’s First District Station (3150 Alabama Avenue SE)
  • Metropolitan Police Department’s Second District Station (3330 Wisconsin Avenue NW)
  • Metropolitan Police Department’s Third District Station (1600 U Street NW)
  • Metropolitan Police Department’s Fourth District Station (6005 Georgia Avenue NW)
  • Metropolitan Police Department’s Fifth District Station (1331 Good Hope Road SE)
  • Metropolitan Police Department’s Sixth District Station (2200 MLK Jr. Avenue SE)
  • Metropolitan Police Department’s Seventh District Station (100 Van Ness Street NW)

Residents can also drop off their medications at any CVS Pharmacy or Walgreens location.
