The Employment and Social Affairs (EMPL) Committee of the European Parliament will send a delegation to Poland from 14 to 16 March 2023 to assess the situation of workers and vulnerable groups in the country, including in the context of the Russian aggression against Ukraine.

The delegation will be led by EPSCO Committee Chair, Dragoş Pîslaru (Renew, RO), and will include the following members:

  • Katrin Langensiepen (S&D, DE)
  • Manon Aubry (The Left, FR)
  • Nicolaus Fest (ID, DE)
  • Sven Giegold (Greens/EFA, DE)

The delegation will meet with Polish government officials, social partners, civil society organisations, and representatives of the United Nations, the International Labour Organization (ILO), and the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). The delegation will also visit a number of sites, including a reception centre for Ukrainian refugees, a labour inspectorate, and a social welfare institution.

The findings of the mission will be presented to the EMPL Committee at a public hearing in Brussels on 28 March 2023. The hearing will be webstreamed and open to the public.

The Russian aggression against Ukraine has had a significant impact on Poland, which has taken in over 1.5 million Ukrainian refugees. The Polish government has also introduced a number of measures to support Ukrainian refugees, including access to housing, healthcare, and education.
