As Assistant Director, Ferguson will lead CJIS in its mission to provide critical law enforcement information and services to federal, state, local, tribal, and international partners.
“Tim Ferguson is a highly respected and experienced leader who is well-suited to lead our CJIS Division,” said Director Wray. “His deep understanding of criminal justice information sharing and his commitment to innovation will be invaluable to the FBI and our partners as we continue to enhance our capabilities to combat crime and keep our communities safe.”

Most recently, Ferguson served as the Deputy Assistant Director for the CJIS Systems Development and Services Branch.
In his previous role, Ferguson oversaw the development and implementation of numerous critical CJIS systems, including the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) and the Next Generation Identification (NGI) system. He also played a key role in the FBI’s efforts to enhance information sharing and interoperability among law enforcement agencies.
Ferguson is a graduate of the University of Maryland, Baltimore County, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice. He is also a graduate of the FBI National Academy.
“I am honored and humbled to be appointed as the Assistant Director of the CJIS Division,” said Ferguson. “I am committed to working closely with our partners to ensure that the FBI provides the highest quality of information and services to law enforcement agencies across the country and around the world.”
The CJIS Division is responsible for managing the FBI’s vast portfolio of criminal justice information systems. These systems include NCIC, NGI, and the Law Enforcement National Data Exchange (N-DEX). CJIS also provides training and support to law enforcement agencies on the use of these systems.
