Federal government invests in new building for Biathlon Yukon
OTTAWA, ON – The Government of Canada is investing in a new facility for Biathlon Yukon, which will provide the organization with a dedicated space for training and competitions.
The new building, which will be located at the Canada Games Centre in Whitehorse, will include a 25-metre shooting range, a 10-lane biathlon range, and a ski waxing and storage area.
The project is funded through a contribution of $1 million from the Canada Infrastructure Program. The Government of Yukon is also providing $1 million, and Biathlon Yukon is contributing $293,500.
“This new facility will provide Biathlon Yukon with the space and resources they need to continue to develop and train world-class athletes,” said Minister of Infrastructure and Communities Ahmed Hussen. “Our government is committed to supporting projects that promote health, wellness, and active living.”
“This project is a huge step forward for Biathlon Yukon,” said Biathlon Yukon president Tom Heath. “We will now have a dedicated facility where our athletes can train and compete year-round.”
The new building is expected to be completed in the fall of 2025.
