Geneva, 18 February 2025 – The World Trade Organization (WTO) today announced the appointment of new chairpersons for its various committees and councils for 2025. The appointments were made by WTO Director-General Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala and will take effect on 1 March 2025.

  • General Council: H.E. Ambassador María Luisa Hayem Brevé de Trabanino (El Salvador)
  • Dispute Settlement Body (DSB): H.E. Ambassador Ahmad Makki (Qatar)
  • Trade Policy Review Body (TPRB): H.E. Ambassador Gloria Abraham Peralta (Mexico)
  • Council for Trade in Goods (CTG): H.E. Ambassador Muhammad Zafarullah Khan (Pakistan)
  • Council for Trade-Related Aspects of Intellectual Property Rights (TRIPS): H.E. Ambassador Janez Premože (Slovenia)
  • Committee on Trade and Development (CTD): H.E. Ambassador Mohammad Hidayatullah (Indonesia)
  • Committee on Balance of Payments Restrictions ( BOP): H.E. Ambassador Nguyen Trung Thanh (Viet Nam)

WTO Director-General Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala said: “I am pleased to announce the appointment of these distinguished individuals as chairpersons of our various committees and councils. They bring a wealth of experience and expertise to their roles, and I am confident that they will lead our work in a productive and effective manner.”

The chairpersons will be responsible for overseeing the work of their respective committees and councils. They will play a key role in shaping the WTO’s agenda and ensuring that the organization remains responsive to the needs of its members.
