Ottawa, February 18, 2025 – The Honourable David Lametti, Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, today announced the following judicial appointment under the new judicial application process announced on October 20, 2016. This process emphasizes transparency, merit, and diversity, and will continue to ensure the appointment of highly qualified, impartial, and representative judges.
Nunavut Court of Justice
- Gordon Iqaluit, Q.C., a partner at Pitsiulak Law Office in Iqaluit, is appointed a Judge of the Nunavut Court of Justice in Iqaluit. Mr. Iqaluit replaces Justice K.E. Iqaluk, who elected to become a supernumerary judge as of January 31, 2023.
About Gordon Iqaluit
Mr. Iqaluit is Inuvialuit and grew up in Sachs Harbour, N.W.T. He obtained a Bachelor of Arts (Northern Studies) from the University of Saskatchewan in 1993 and a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Victoria in 1998. He has practised law in Nunavut since 1998, heading Pitsiulak Law Office since 2004. He has appeared before all levels of court in Nunavut, the Northwest Territories, and the Federal Court. Mr. Iqaluit has extensive experience in criminal and family law, including child protection. He has also served as a crown prosecutor, on various legal aid committees, and as the chair of the Nunavut Law Society Hearing Committee. He is currently a Bencher of the Nunavut Law Society.
