Minister Joly announces launch of Women Foreign Ministers’ Group
Ottawa, February 18, 2025 – Today, the Honourable Mélanie Joly, Minister of Foreign Affairs, announced the launch of the Women Foreign Ministers’ Group (WFMG), a new initiative that brings together female foreign ministers from around the world to collaborate on issues of global importance.
“The launch of the Women Foreign Ministers’ Group is a historic moment,” said Minister Joly. “This group will provide a unique platform for women leaders to share their perspectives and work together to address the challenges and opportunities facing our world.”
The WFMG will focus on a range of issues, including:
- Advancing gender equality and women’s empowerment
- Promoting peace and security
- Addressing climate change
- Strengthening economic growth and development
The group will meet regularly to discuss these issues and develop joint initiatives.
“The Women Foreign Ministers’ Group is a powerful symbol of the growing leadership of women in international affairs,” said Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka, Executive Director of UN Women. “This group will provide a valuable platform for women to share their experiences and insights, and to work together to create a more just and equitable world.”
The WFMG is open to all female foreign ministers. The group is currently chaired by Minister Joly.
