Regarding the Election of the Chairperson of the African Union Commission
The Republic of Türkiye welcomes the upcoming election of the Chairperson of the African Union Commission (AUC) scheduled for the 35th Ordinary Session of the Assembly of the African Union to be held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia from 15 to 19 February 2025.
Türkiye attaches great importance to its partnership with the African Union and believes that a strong and effective leadership of the AUC is crucial for advancing the common goals of peace, security, and sustainable development in Africa.
Türkiye has been closely following the candidacies for the AUC Chairperson position and extends its best wishes to all candidates. We are confident that the Assembly of the African Union will make an informed decision that will serve the best interests of the continent.
Türkiye stands ready to work closely with the newly elected Chairperson and the AUC to further strengthen our cooperation and contribute to the realization of the African Union’s Agenda 2063.
In particular, Türkiye is keen to enhance collaboration in areas such as:
- Peace and security: Addressing conflict resolution, peacekeeping operations, and countering terrorism
- Economic development: Promoting trade and investment, infrastructure development, and knowledge transfer
