His Majesty The King has been graciously pleased to approve the award of an Honorary Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (CBE) to Mrs Yoshiko Mori, Chairperson Emerita, Mori Art Museum, in recognition of her services to British and Japanese cultural relations.
Mrs Mori has been a passionate advocate for cultural exchange between the UK and Japan for many years. In 2007, she established the Mori Art Museum (MAM) in Tokyo, which has since become one of the leading contemporary art museums in Asia. MAM has hosted numerous exhibitions of British art, including works by Tracey Emin, Damien Hirst and David Hockney.
Mrs Mori has also been a generous supporter of UK cultural institutions. She has donated works of art to the Tate and the British Museum, and has supported educational programmes at the Royal College of Art.
In recognition of her outstanding contribution to cultural relations, Mrs Mori was awarded the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in 2013.
The award of a CBE is a fitting tribute to Mrs Mori’s tireless work to promote understanding and cooperation between the UK and Japan.
