The Government of Canada is investing in new technology to help search and rescue (SAR) volunteers find people in distress more quickly and efficiently.
Today, the Minister of Public Safety, the Honourable Marco Mendicino, announced an investment of $10 million over five years in new technology for SAR volunteers. This investment will help SAR volunteers to:
• Acquire new equipment, such as drones, thermal imaging cameras, and satellite communicators • Develop new training programs to use the new equipment • Conduct research to improve SAR techniques
“Our search and rescue volunteers are everyday heroes who put their lives on the line to help others,” said Minister Mendicino. “This investment will provide them with the tools and training they need to do their job more effectively and safely.”
The Government of Canada recognizes the vital role that SAR volunteers play in keeping Canadians safe. This investment will help SAR volunteers to continue to provide essential services to communities across the country.
