Dounreay to take on 23 new apprentices
- 13th February 2025
Dounreay is to take on 23 new apprentices in a major recruitment drive to support the closure of the site and the development of new industries.
The apprenticeships will be offered in a range of disciplines, including electrical, mechanical, and civil engineering, as well as science and business administration.
The move is part of a wider strategy to ensure that Dounreay has the skills and expertise it needs to safely decommission the site and create a sustainable future for the area.
The apprenticeships will be delivered in partnership with North Highland College UHI, which has a proven track record in delivering high-quality apprenticeships.
Successful candidates will receive a combination of on-the-job training and classroom-based learning, leading to a nationally recognized qualification.
The apprenticeships will provide a vital opportunity for young people to gain the skills and experience they need to build successful careers in the energy sector and beyond.
Dounreay Site Restoration Ltd (DSRL), the company responsible for the decommissioning of the site, is committed to investing in the local community and creating opportunities for young people.
The apprenticeships will also support the development of new industries in the area, as Dounreay moves away from nuclear decommissioning.
Sarah MacAuley, DSRL’s skills and development manager, said: “We are delighted to be able to offer these apprenticeships and to invest in the future of the local community.
“These apprenticeships will provide young people with the skills and experience they need to build successful careers in the energy sector and beyond.
“We are committed to supporting the development of new industries in the area and to creating a sustainable future for Dounreay.”
Applications for the apprenticeships are now open and will close on 27th February 2025.
