The A40 Hardwick Roundabout, A40 Hardwick Gyratory and A40, A465 and A4042 Trunk Roads (Abergavenny, Monmouthshire) (Temporary Traffic Prohibitions & Restrictions) Order 2025
Notice is hereby given that the Welsh Ministers have made an Order under sections 14(1) and 14(7) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, as amended, to make provision for the closure and temporary prohibition and restriction of traffic on the roads specified in the Schedule to this notice.
The Order will come into force on 14 February 2025 and have a maximum duration of eighteen months.
Temporary traffic prohibitions and restrictions
The Order prohibits, except with the permission of a constable or police community support officer, any vehicle from proceeding or waiting on the A40 Hardwick Roundabout and A40 Hardwick Gyratory from the junctions with Cardiff Road and the A465 respectively for the whole or part of its length.
Temporary restriction of traffic
The Order restricts, except with the permission of a constable or police community support officer, any vehicle from proceeding on the following roads at the A40 Hardwick Gyratory:
- The A40 trunk road, from a point approximately 100 metres south of the boundary between the counties of Herefordshire and Monmouthshire to a point approximately 400 metres north of the junction with Cardiff Road;
- The A465 trunk road, from a point approximately 30 metres east of the junction with the A40 trunk road to a point approximately 100 metres west of the boundary between the counties of Herefordshire and Monmouthshire;
- The A4042 trunk road, from a point approximately 20 metres south of the boundary between the counties of Herefordshire and Monmouthshire to a point approximately 100 metres north of the junction with Cardiff Road.
The restrictions apply to:
- Vehicles (except works vehicles);
- Cycles (except pedal cycles).
Alternative routes
Alternative routes will be signed during the prohibition and restriction periods.
Timetable
The prohibition and restrictions will be in operation from 08:00 hours on 14 February 2025 until 18:00 hours on 1 April 2025.
Reason for the closures and restrictions
The prohibitions and restrictions are necessary to enable Cadw to carry out works to improve the safety of the A40 Hardwick Roundabout and A40 Hardwick Gyratory.
Exemptions
a) vehicles being used in connection with the works; and
b) emergency services vehicles.
Compliance with the Order
Any person who fails to comply with the Order commits an offence and is liable on conviction to a fine not exceeding £1,000.
